Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate English students’ teacher perceptions of using WhatsApp as supplemental learning tools in a paragraph writing class. The researcher explored the perceptions of the students on benefits and limitations of using WhatsApp. There were six participants in this research that the researcher got through purposive sampling; two high achievers, two average achievers, and two low achievers. In this research, the data were collected through demographic questionnaire and interview. The data were analyzed descriptively which resulted four major themes; general background of the participants in related to the use of SNS, SNS on students’ views, benefits of WhatsApp in paragraph writing class, and limitations of WhatsApp in paragraph writing class. There were many positive perceptions of the students in using WhatsApp in paragraph writing class. Moreover, suggestions and pedagogy recommendation are offered to all related parties such as lecturers, policy makers of higher education, higher education students, and other stakeholders.
