Abstract

The objective of this research was to examine the effectiveness of TGT Method in teaching reading of recount text for eight graders’ at SMP Negeri 22 Kota Jambi. The method which applied in this research was a quasi-experimental research. There were two classes; experimental class and controlled class. The experimental class was taught by using TGT Method while the controlled class was taught using of Non TGT Method. Furthermore, this research was conducted through the following procedures: giving the pre-test, applying treatments, giving post-test. Based on the result of analyzing the data using the independent t-test, the value of significant (2-tailed) is 0,002 < 0.05. Therefore, it can be inferred that TGT Method gives the positive effect. In conclusion that TGT can help students in reading comprehension. Key words : Teams Games Tournaments (TGT) Method, Reading Comprehension Scores.
