Abstract

ABSTRACT Wati Kurnia, 2019. Students’ Responses toward Teacher’s Hand-written Commentary on Students’ Writing at SMAN 4 Batang Hari. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Traning and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Drs. Makmur, SE, M.Hum, MA. The second supervisor is Nely Arif, S.Pd., M.Pd. The aim of this study was to investigate students’ responses toward the teacher’s hand-written commentary on students’ writing at SMAN 4 Batang Hari. The respondents of this study are the second-year students of SMAN 4 Batang Hari. The researcher chose XI IIS 2 class because the teacher who gives teacher’s hand-written commentary was an English teacher in the class. This study used quantitative research with survey approach. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed by using statistical technique. The results of the study showed the students agree the teacher’s hand-written commentary; End comments are very important and useful for them. The students read the comments because they want to know their weak and strong points. Based on findings mentioned above, the researcher concluded that the students prefer the teacher gives the End comment rather than Body and Margin comments. The comments to where the mistakes are, to make the students know the strong and weak points and easier to improve the papers.
