Abstract
ABSTRACT Pernando, Alan. 2019. Students’ Learning Style in Mastering Vocabulary at SMP N 24 Kota Jambi. A thesis, English Study Program of Teacher Training and Education Jambi University. The first Supervisor is Yanto, S.Pd., M.Ed and the second Supervisor is Masbirorotni, S.Pd., M.Sc.Ed. Keywords: Learning Style, Mastering, Vocabulary This research was conducted to investigate the dominant learning style used by students in mastering vocabulary and to find the differences of students’ learning style in mastering vocabulary between male and female students at first grade of SMP N 24 Kota Jambi. This research was conducted as quantitative using survey approach. The writer adapted the questionnaire from Perceptual Learning Style Preference Questionnaire (PLSPQ) developed by Joy Reid. The data were gathered through questionnaires involving 90 first grade students of SMP N 24 Kota Jambi. Based on the results from questionnaire, most of students chosen visual style (50%) as their dominant learning style in mastering vocabulary. Gender also the difference of students’ learning style in mastering vocabulary between male and female students. For male students, kinesthetic learner are dominant as 25%. On the other hand, female students, visual learner are dominant as 54%. In the end, the writer found that every students has a suitable learning style that can be used in mastering vocabulary effectively for themself. Because every students have different intelligence that mean teacher should prepare an appropriate teaching method to accumulate all types of students’ learning style in mastering vocabulary.Therefore, this research is expected that it can encourage other researchers to conduct further research dealing with students’ learning style in other skill areas such as speaking, reading, or writing.
