Abstract

The aim of this research was to obtain the empirical evidence about the effect of using audio visual on students’ writing of procedure texts. The method used in this research was a quantitative method and the research design was a quasi-experimental. The sample of this research was at the ninth grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jambi academic year of 2019/2020. They were IX A class as the experimental class, whereas IX B class as the control one. Each class consisted of 25 students. The experimental class was taught with audio visual while the control class was taught with teacher’s presentation or without audio. For sampling technique the researcher used purposive sampling. The instrument used in this research was a written test and the scoring of writing rubric was used to score the students’ writing on the pre and posttest. Based on the results of tests conducted by students both Pre-test and Post test. it can be seen that the test score is higher in the experimental class that uses audio visual than the control class without using audio visual. This can be proven from the average value (mean) of 2.108,higher than 6.20. In the experimental class the value of tcount is 8.718>t table 2.064 and in the control class, the tcount is 4.206> ttable 2.064. It can be concluded that the alternative hypothesis (Ha), which states there are differences score between the students taught by using audio visual and taught without using audio visual was accepted. On the other hand, the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using audio visual to improve the writing procedure text of the ninth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Jambi City.
