Abstract

ABSTRACT Usmar, R.J. (2020). Students' Perception on the Use of Kahoot! Digital Application as Motivation in Learning Grammar. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Dr. Fortunasari, S.S., M.A. The second supervisor is Tubagus Zam Zam Al Arif, S.Pd., M.Pd. Motivation is important in learning grammar; one way to increase motivation is through gamification, Kahoot! is one of them. Kahoot! is a simple and fun platform that gives access to a free and fresh approach to learning through gamification. This research dealt with the survey on how students perceived the use of Kahoot! as motivation in learning grammar. This research employed mixed-method research. The type of research was specifically a survey. The researcher decided to use the survey as the focus of the case. This study's participants were 28 students of Grammar subject R-004 batch 2019 English Education Study Program, Jambi University. The data collected through questionnaires and interviews. The result of the study showed that the students' perception of using Kahoot! as motivation in learning grammar was positive as the student felt that the use of Kahoot! as motivation helped students to learn in a fun way. Moreover, Kahoot! did not only helped students on how to learn fun but also students became more motivated to learn the material in Grammar subject. However, the researcher also found the problems faced by students in using the Kahoot! which is an unstable internet connection. Keywords: Kahoot!, Motivation, Perception, Grammar subject.
