Abstract
Marseli, U. N .2020. The Effect of Using Discuss-Pair-Describe Picture (DPDP) Model toward Students’ Speaking Skill at SMPN 18 Tebo. Thesis, English Study Program, Department of Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University. The first supervisor is Dr. Dra. Yelia, M.Pd. The second supervisor is Nyimas Triyana Safitri, S.Pd., M.Ed,st Key words: Discuss-Pair-Describe Picture (DPDP), Speaking, Descriptive text This research aimed to find out whether there is a significant effect or not of using the DPDP model toward student speaking skill at the 7th grade students of SMPN 18 Tebo. This research was categorized as an experimental research on the teaching of speaking by using the Discuss-Pair-Describe Picture (DPDP) model. DPDP is one method based on the cooperative learning approach. In this model students work in groups in order to create positive cooperation between each other's members, this model facilitates students working in pairs. DPDP model consists of 3 phases: class discussion (discuss), paired work (pair), and description (describe). The data were collected by using observation notes, students’ Pre-test scores, treatment, and students’ Post-test scores. The subjects of this research were the all students in seventh grades of Junior High School 18 Tebo in the second academic year of 2017/2018. Class VIIA as an experimental Class, Class VIIB as a control class and class VIIC as a reliability class. The result of this study showed that the significant value of post-test between the experimental and control class was 0.000. Based on the value, it can be seen that if the value is < 0.05 its means Ha is accepted, and indicates that there was an effect of using the technique in the sample class. It can be concluded that Ha is accepted, while H0 is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that Discuss-Pair-Describe Picture (DPDP) is Effective on teaching speaking because it showed significant effect on students’ speaking skill.
