Abstract

ABSTRACT Akasi Oktavia, (2020). Challenges Encountered by an English Teacher in Teaching Inclusive Class. Thesis, English Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Jambi in Academic Year 2019/2020. First supervisor: Hidayati, S.Pd., M.Pd and second supervisor: Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. This research aimed to analyze challenges encountered by an English teacher of one of private primary schools in Jambi province in teaching inclusive class and the efforts to overcome those challenges. The process of collecting the data was done by interviewing the English teacher through telephone. The data collected from interview process transcribed and analyzed. The result of the research showed that there are three main themes of challenges encountered by the English teacher in teaching inclusive class which have been discussed in this research, those are: the first is lack of teacher’s background knowledge, there is a sub-theme in this theme that is lack of background knowledge about inclusive education. The second theme is lack of supporting from school which contains four sub-themes those are the readiness to implement inclusive ducation, lack of teacher’s training, lack of teacher assistant and lack of information about school inclusion. The last theme is classroom management which includes two subthemes, wasting time to teach inclusive class and giving instruction. The efforts to solve the problems were also discussed in the research. The discussion about the themes in this research can be the consideration for the implementation of the inclusive education system in the school. Key words: Challenges, Inclusive class.
