Abstract

ABSTRACT Tri Endang Dian Utami, 2020. “Investigating Speaking Difficulties Faced by Students of English Education Study Program at Universitas Jambi.” Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education University of Jambi. First Supervisor: Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd,., M.Pd. Second supervisor: Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key words: Speaking, speaking difficulties. This research focuses on speaking difficulties faced by students of second, fourth, and sixth semester at English Department in Universitas Jambi. The purpose of this research is to find out speaking difficulties faced by the students. The method applied is descriptive quantitative, which the instrument of this research was questionnaire. The questionnaire consists of 25 items related to students’ speaking difficulties in linguistics and psychological problems. The subjects of this research were students of second, fourth, and sixth semester at English department in Universitas Jambi. The result of the research reveals that most students faced linguistics difficulties in speaking (40.56%). Furthermore, the result showed that the students of each semester had the responses. They faced linguistics problem the most in speaking. The score is only slightly different. It was 41.9% for second semester, 41.1% responses in fourth semester, and sixth semester (38.08%). Based on the result, it can be concluded that most of the students of English Education Study Program in Universitas Jambi faced linguistics problem in learning speaking.
