Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research was conducted based on people’s communication through the use of slang expressions in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales’ movie. The purposes of the study are to investigate the use of slang expressions, their meanings and word-formations. The data were gathered through observing and analyzing the transcript of the movie. The results of this study show that there are 23 expressions of slang, to find out the meanings of the slang expressions researcher used some offline and online slang dictionaries. The most common types of word-formation processes are compounding and inflection with 5 data. Followed by multiple process with 4 data, both derivation and shift has 3 data, borrowing has 2 data and blending with 1 data as the least common process of word formation in this research. The researcher purposes to other scholars or future researchers to do some related researches in other aspects about slang expressions or linguistics deeply.
