Abstract
Merli Dewanti. 2020. Students’ Perception on Modified Song Lyrics Toward Their Vocabulary Achievement: The Case of one Junior High School in Jambi. Jambi: Universitas Jambi. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Jambi in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Prof. Amirul Mukminin,S.Pd.,M.Sc.Ed.P.hD. The second supervisor is Dr. Masbirorotni S.Pd.,MSc.Ed This research aimed at examining how students' perception on the modified song lyrics toward their vocabulary achievement at SMPN 18 Kota Jambi. The research question was: how is the student's perception on modified song lyrics in increasing of their vocabulary? This research used a quantitative method with a survey. The population in this research is the eighth class in SMPN 18 Kota Jambi of academic year 2019/2020. The sample of this study was 33 students, the number of male students was 15 with a percentage of 45.4% and the number of female students was 18 with a percentage of 54.6%. The instrument used in data collection is questionnaire, there are 11 questions. The results showed that students' perceptions with the use of modified song lyrics could increasing the vocabulary of students with a percentage of 73.3%, students were more eager and students more easily understood with a percentage of 66.7% and remembered about the vocabulary that they had to power them in enjoying their study with a percentage of 60.0% and they were easy to remember and understand about the vocabulary they had to master with a percentage of 63.6%. It can be concluded that by using modified song lyrics it is good to use in learning English, especially for improving vocabulary.
