Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out junior high school students’ perception toward pre-service teachers skills of classroom management at SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi. The data were collected by using the survey questionnaire and were analyzed in terms of descriptive statistics. This study involved 70 eight grade students at SMPN 30 Muaro Jambi as respondents of the research. The analysis of the data was based on the students’ responses to twenty one statements that consisted of three indicators of classroom management skills: classroom organization, classroom rule, and communication with learners. The students responded by picking any of five alternatives namely strongly agree, agree, not sure, disagree, and strongly disagree. The findings showed that highest score of each part that most of students (80.5%) agreed that the pre-service teachers had very good skill in organizing the class, then more than half of the students (79.1%) stated that the pre-service teachers had good skill in rule the class and (80.5%) stated that the pre-service teachers had very good skill in communicating with learners. In conclusion, based on the findings it could be seen that the majority of students had a positive responses toward pre-service teachers skill in managing the classroom during pre-service teachers program. In the future, the researcher hoped that the findings of the research could be used as the source and references for the lecturer and for the English pre-service teachers at University of Jambi to gather any information and knowledge about pre-service teaching and show the pre-service teachers how to manage the classroom well on the basis of the student’s point of view.
