Abstract
ABSTRACT PUTRI MAYASARI, 2020, Students’ Perception on the Use of English Authentic Materials As A Complementary Textbooks at One Public Senior High School in Jambi. A Thesis of English Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Hadiyanto, S. Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D. The second supervisor is Duti Volya, S. Pd., M.Pd. Every teacher always have their own way to attract student’s motivation. One of that way with bring the suitable materials in the class to complement textbook because in the senior high school, students already link between learning in the class and their real life. Therefore, teacher will bring the materials that related in the real life. Materials that related in the real life called as authentic materials. When the first time teacher bring these materials, teacher will ask their students about the materials in the end of the lesson. Based on this, this study was designed to investigate students’ perception on the use of English authentic materials as a complementary textbooks at one public senior high school in Jambi. A questionnaire was used to collect the data which is consist of seven indicators, which are interesting, communicating, inspiring, fun and enjoyable, difficulties, motivating, and usefulness of authentic materials. The participants were 118 students from 11th grade senior high school in Jambi. The findings indicate that use of authentic materials as a complementary textbooks can help students in learning English. Keywords: Authentic Materials, Students’ Perception.
