Abstract

ABSTRACT Aisyah, Siti (2020). Students’ Attitude Toward Cooperative Learning in Reading Comprehension at English Department Jambi University Thesis, Faculty of Teacher and Education, Jambi University in Academic Year 2020. First supervisor: Nyimas Triyana Safiti,S.Pd.,M.Ed.St, and second supervision: Muklash Abrar, S.S.M.Hum.Ph.D Keywords: Students’ attitudes, cooperative learning, reading comprehension. This research was conducted from researcher’s interest about how other students think, students think, feel, and react to cooperative learning in reading comprehension as one teaching and learning strategies which often used in English Education Study Program of Jambi University. Purposes of conducting this research are to find out students’ positive and negative attitudes toward cooperative learning in reading comprehension implemented in their classes and to conclude advantages and disadvantages of cooperative learning in reading comprehension based on students’ attitudes. Handing close-ended questionnaires to 34 students was done to get data of this research use Google form. Research showed that students’ positive attitudes showed that they enjoy cooperative learning in reading comprehension because they share and discuss their ideas with a group of friends. As for the negative attitudes: students spend too much time talking about unrelated topics and their contributions to the group are not balanced. From these results, advantages and disadvantages of cooperative learning in reading comprehension is that forms a better learning environment for students’ communicative skills improvement and promote good friendship between one another. Meanwhile, the most disadvantages of cooperative learning is that group members is unfair. In conclusion, there are still some part in cooperative learning implementation that should be improved even though it brings positive effects.
