Abstract
Rosandi, J. O. (2020). Teachers' Strategies in Teaching English Vocabulary at SMP N 8 Kota Jambi. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Universitas Jambi in 2019/2020 Academic Year. The first supervisor is Dr. Fortunasari, S.S., M.A. The second supervisor is Robi Soma, S.Pd., M.Pd. In teaching practice, the researcher conducted some observations to observe teachers teaching strategies. The researcher found that the teachers had different teaching strategies. Therefore, the researcher surveyed all English teachers and students. This study aimed to investigate the teachers’ strategies in teaching English vocabulary at SMP N 8 Kota Jambi. The research method used is descriptive quantitative. The study subjects were all English teachers and 149 seventh-grade students. Data collection through an online questionnaire consisting of teacher and student questionnaires. The analysis showed that the English teachers at SMP N 8 Kota Jambi used strategies in teaching English vocabulary such as strategies using pictures, real things, games, movie clips, translating, explaining, action and gestures, synonyms, and antonyms. Besides, positive student responses make teaching strategies effective during learning. It is concluded that the teacher used several strategies in teaching English vocabulary that are in accordance with the experts and these strategies make students active during learning.
