Abstract
ABSTRACT Mesi Pamela Putri. (2020). Teacher and Students’ Attitudes toward Remedial Teaching in English Classes at SMPN 10 Kota Jambi. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Dr. Dra, Yelia, M.Pd. The second supervisor is Eddy Haryanto, S.Pd, M. Sc, M. PP, Ph.D. This qualitative research was conducted by describing teacher and students’ attitudes toward remedial teaching in English classes at SMPN 10 Kota Jambi and how do teachers implement remedial teaching in the English classes at SMPN 10 Jambi City. Total participants are seven participants that consist of one English teacher who taught first grade and six students who had been adjusted to the criteria. The data collected through interviews. The result of the study showed that that teacher and students’ have positive attitudes toward remedial teaching. It can be seen from the result of the discussion of three aspects of attitudes shows that teachers and students’ have positive attitudes toward remedial teaching. Furthermore, the results also show the teacher has implemented remedial teaching in several steps. First, the teacher collects cases and diagnoses student learning difficulties. Second, the teacher determines the actions to be given. Third, the teacher holds remedial activities. Fourth is re-evaluation. Keywords: Remedial Teaching, Attitudes
