Abstract

ABSTRACT Br. Sinaga, Henny Haryati (2021). The Effectiveness of Using Media toward Students’ Speaking Ability at Eighth Graders’ of SMPN 8 Kota Jambi. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University in Academic Year, 2020/2021. First advisor is Hadiyanto, S.Pd., M.Ed., Ph.D and the second advisor is Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd., M.Pd. Key words: Media, Speaking Ability This research explained about the media used by the teacher to develop students' speaking ability faced by the eighth graders' of SMPN 8 Kota Jambi. This research used descriptive qualitative research method. The researcher chose the teacher of Eighth graders' as sample which consists two teachers. In collecting the data, the researcher used interview. The researcher found several conclusions from the media used by the teachers at SMPN 8 Jambi City as follows: first, the researcher found that the teacher used media such as videos, youtube, pictures and magazines as a teaching material in the classroom. Second, the teachers has a model and strategy in teaching. The teachers provides an example and explains the media. Then, the teachers provides evaluations to students. After that, the teachers assesses the students' speaking ability. The result, students easily understand and explain the content of the media. And third, the media used by the teacher was very effective in developing students' speaking abilities, especially in speaking.
