Abstract
ABSTRACT Diskha Rahmadini Putri 2020. Problem experienced by and coping strategies of Pre-service English teachers during Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan (PLP).Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Universitas Jambi. The first supervisor: Bunga Ayu Wulandari S.Pd., MEIL., Ph.D. The second supervisor: Hidayati, S.Pd., M.Pd Key word: Pre-service teachers, coping strategies, problem experienced The aim of this study was to explored problems encountered by Pre-service English teachers during their teaching practicum and what are the coping strategies that they used to solved these problems. The participants of this research were ten student teachers of English Department of Universitas Jambi who accomplished their PLP in the seventh semester 2019 and teach at private and public shool based in Muaro Jambi and Kota Jambi. This research employed qualitative method by using interviews to collect the data. Interviews with Pre- service English teachers were used to obtain data and evidence about their problem experienced in the teaching practicum and how they solved the problems during PLP. The results of data analysis releaved that there were a variety of problem experienced that can be mainly categorized into 8 aspects, namely curriculum and teaching set, strategies evaluation system, assisting teachers teaching and learning with media, student activity sheets, teaching materials, and evaluation instrument, utilization of information and communication technology, teaching practice with the guidance of tutor teachers and PLP supervisors, mentoring students in extracurricular activities, and assisting teacher in fulfilling administration work. Several efforts carried out are also identified and some suggestions are also highlighted at the end of the paper.
