Abstract

ABSTRACT RANINSAH, REZEKI, 2021. Using Rewards in Teaching English at SD N 47 Jambi Teacher Perception in EFL Classes. Thesis English Education Study Program. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University in Academic Year 2019/2020. The first supervisor is Duti Volya, S.Pd., M.Pd. The second supervisor is Nyimas Triyana Safitri, S.Pd., M.Ed.St. This research investigated the English teachers’ perception toward the use of rewards in teaching English at Elementary School. It aimed to investigate why the English teachers use rewards in teaching English. This research used qualitative research approach where the data qualitatively collected by interview. This research was conducted at SD N 47 Jambi and three English teachers of the school were chosen as participants who participated in the process of collecting data via interview. The interview result showed that the teachers were not clearly know about the real definition of rewards, however the participants said they use rewards in their class because using reward make their students more motivated in learning English. Students were more interested, motivated, and enthusiastic toward the teaching and learning process when the participants used rewards in the classroom. Otherwise, when the participants did not use rewards, the students seem to not paying attention when the teacher explaining about the materials for the class, they were less interested, motivated, and enthusiastic in learning English.
