Abstract

ABSTRACT Galuh, Wisma Putri. 2021. English Classroom Instructions for Young Learners at One of Elementary School in Jambi. Thesis. English Education Study Program. Language and Arts Department. Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Jambi University. Advisor: Nunung Fajaryani, S.Pd,. M.Pd and Drs. Masbirorotni, S.Pd,. M.Sc.Ed Keyword: Classroom Instructions, Young Learners The objective of this study is to investigate the type of classroom instruction used by the teachers in the learning process and to describe how did the teachers giving the classroom instruction to encourage students understanding at one of elementary school in Jambi. The research method of this study is qualitative research design. The subjects of this research is the teacher of English subjects who is teaching English at elementary school in Jambi and the students of third grade within 20 students consist of 13 males and 7 females. The instruments of this study are classroom observation and interview. To collect the data, the researcher uses classroom observation to get the result of the types of classroom instruction and how the teacher used it to encourage students understanding, whether the interview uses to get the additional data. The analysis of the data shows that teacher of English subjects used L1 dominantly in classroom instruction to make a conversation between students and teacher in the learning process then to convey the material in classroom and the teacher used short and simple instructions at the certain time to make sure the students understands what teachers explain or not. And then, the researchers found four categories of classroom instruction that teacher used, but only two categories that always teacher used to encourage students understanding.
