Abstract

This classroom action research aims to improve the students' metacognitive and motivational skills in the biology teaching study program biology education program through the application of portfolio-based learning assessment and learning journals. The study was conducted in 2 action cycles, each cycle of action that was carried out consisted of four stages. The results of this study are (1) Application of portfolio-based learning assessment and learning journals able to improve metacognitive ability. Percentage of metacognitive ability score before action 65,2% included in enough category. The percentage of metacognitive scores increased in cycle I to 70.6% included in both category and in cycle II increased to 77,1% included in good category. (2) Implementation of portfolio-based learning assessment and learning journal can improve learning motivation. Percentage of learning motivation score before 65% action included in enough category. The percentage of learning motivation score increased in Cycle I to 82.50% including in very good category and in cycle II increased to 89.50% including in very good category.
