Abstract
The burned peatland ecosystem causes succession, starting with the growth of wild plants into shrubs. During the succession process, the litter produced from the scrub is able to cover the surface of the burnt peat land. It is assumed that the burnt land in 2015 will have different characteristics from the peat lands that were burnt in 2019. This study aims to analyze the comparison of the physical characteristics of the burned peat lands. The research used survey and observation methods and the sampling method used. Sampling was carried out by purposive sampling method on burnt peat areas. To achieve this objective, research was carried out in Jati Mulyo Village, Dendang District, Tanjung Jabung Timur Regency, Jambi Province, from May to September 2020. The data collected included peat depth, peat maturity (van Post method), groundwater level depth (using a buoyed ruler), soil moisture content (gravimetric method), organic matter content (loss ignation method), and bulk density (ring sample method). The results showed that there were differences in peat depth, organic matter content, and bulk density between the peat lands that were burned in 2015 and 2019.
