Abstract

This study describes the existence of women in politics and government that experiences quite interesting dynamics. Development demands force women to participate actively even though they have to experience various challenges. The dynamics can be explained by observation and documentation through female figures who are in the Legislature and Executive in Jambi Province. Efforts to increase women's representation in politics and government in Jambi Province must deal with challenges in cultural values, customs and culture of partriarchy and deeply rooted stereotypes. Data on the results of legislative elections in Jambi Province from the 2009 elections to 2019 showed an increase, but not significantly. It is interesting to uncover the veil of how the social, religious and cultural environment views women in the vortex of politics and government, discovering the strategies of important figures of women in political and government circles in Jambi Province. This research can provide knowledge that feminist struggles need to be supported by every element of society, changing thinking about women as a second class capable of performing multiple roles. Therefore the position of women is unique amid the rise of political competition. Women's participation is not due to the formality of the affirmative action policy, but because of the motivation and awareness of the woman herself.
