Abstract

The purpose of the research was to analyze the structure of the cow market based on the seller and buyer concentration and to reveal the market structure and barrier to entry in the cow market with 18 permanent sellers in Batanghari Regency. This research was conducted from 14 December 2018 until 25 January 2019 at Cattle Market, Batanghari Regency, Jambi Province. Data of this experiment was collected from the primary and the secondary data. The Primary Data consisted of the number of the incoming cow and out coming cow, the seller and buyer characteristic. For determination of the buyer concentration was used the Ratio Concentration (Kr) Formula and the market share, in which the result of Kr and market share was 72,73 % with eight most biggest seller at the cow market in Batanghari Regency. Apart from this, the structure of the cow market in Batanghari Regency also calculated by using Index Hirschman Herfindahl (IHH) and Concentration ratio for the Four Biggest (Cr4) Formula. The result of IHH was 0.17 and Cr4 was 0.68. From market barriers, the score of Minimum Efficient Scale (MES) was 14.83%. This result of this experiment was bigger than those of Aliastar (2004), he was mentioned that the score of MES was >10 %, meaning high market barriers. The result showed that the cow market in Batanghari Regency was oligopoly structure with the loose concentration based on the seller concentration by using market share approach. Based on IHH value it showed that the cow market in Batanghari Regency was Oligopsoni competitive cow market. The score of IHH was <0,18 then by using CR4 approach also was categized as oligopsoni
