Abstract

Abstract Background Time Restriction Feeding which classifications of intermittent fasting diets is diet method with fasting period of 16-20 hours and 4 hours of diet ad libitum every day. Intermittent fasting diet can reduce weight, risk of metabolic disease, and reduce insulin resistance. However, no studies on long-term effects. Aim of this study to determine the effect of an intermittent fasting diet on body weight and liver transaminase enzymes. Method This is a laboratory experimental only post test group design. Performed at the Animal House, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Jambi University and Health Laboratory Center Jambi. Rats (Rattus norvegicus) male Sprague Dawley strain aged 2-3 months and without anatomical abnormalities were divided into two groups: control (n=10) has ad libitum feeding and intermitent fasting (n=10) has diet with fasting period for 16-20 hours and 4 hours on ad libitum feeding every day for 1 month. Body weight measured every three days, aspartate transaminase and alkaline transaminase after treatment. Results Time Restriction Feeding can reduce body weight (mean pretreatment=236.43, mean posttreatment =134.61) compared to controls (mean pretreatment=206,76, mean posttreatment=253.66). Asparate transaminase increased in time restriction feeding (129 ± 528) compared to control (122 ± 211)(mann-whithey test; p<0.05). The mean value of asparate transaminase at time restriction feeding was 293 (CI95%177.83-408.16). Alkaline transaminase also increased in time restriction feeding (58 ± 286) compared to controls (49 ± 79). The mean value of alkaline transaminase at time restriction feeding was 144 (CI95% 60.53-167.46). Conclusion Time Restriction Feeding can reduce body weight, but increased aspartate transaminase and alkaline transaminase than control.
