Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction Cesarean section is one of the surgical procedures classified as clean contamination surgery. WHO estimates that the rate of births by cesarean section is around 10-15% of all deliveries. Women who have a cesarean section have a 5-20-fold greater risk of infection than a normal delivery. Provision of surgical prophylactic antibiotics is highly recommended. Provision of prophylactic antibiotics is part of preventing infection. Antibiotics given to surgical patients aim to reduce the number of bacterial colonies, reduce the amount of contamination inoculums thereby reducing the risk of infection or as a therapy if it is already in a state of previous infection. In prophylactic measures, antibiotics are given before there are signs of infection. To achieve the optimization of prophylactic antibiotics, there are several things to consider in their administration, namely whether or not prophylactic therapy is needed, the type of antibiotics to be given, how to administer antibiotics, when to administer antibiotics and how long the antibiotics are given. Method This study uses a descriptive retrospective study. Secondary data by looking at the research variables recorded in the medical records of cesarean section patients at Raden Mattaher Hospital Jambi in 2018 and meet the study inclusion criteria. The sample of this study were all patients who gave birth to cesarean section who were treated at Raden Mataher Hospital in 2018 (total sampling). Results: Age of post-cesarean patients who used antibiotics most at the age of more than 20 to 35 years, namely 217 people. The highest number of post-cesarean pregnancies using antibiotics were multigravida, 188 people. The antibiotics used in post cesarean patients were ceftriaxon, which were 308 people. Antibiotics given to cesarean patients are given for 3-5 days of treatment. Conclusion Patients who use antibiotics in post-cesarean patients who seek treatment at Raden Mattaher Hospital in 2018 are known to be most at the age of more than 20 to 35 years, the most multigravida, the most used antibiotics are ceftriaxon given for 3 to 5 days Keywords: Antibiotics, Caesarean section, Duration of use
