Abstract

Background Obesity affects more than 650 million people in the world. Diet modification and physical activity play a role in reducing the risk of diseases caused by obesity. The 5: 2 intermittent fasting diet is a modified diet that fasts for 2 days and 5 days is not fasting. During fasting, you can only consume food only 25%. This study aimed to determine the effect of a 5: 2 fasting diet on body weight and liver function. As the research method, animal experimental study on white male rats strain Sprague Dawley aged 2-3 months and no anatomical abnormalities which are divided into 2 groups; control group (n = 10) with ad libitum diet and 5: 2 fasting diet group (n = 10). ). The results showed that fasting Diet 5: 2 can reduce body weight (mean = 203.8) compared to controls (mean = 253.6). There was no increase in Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase (t-test; p> 0.05) and Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (t-test; p> 0.05). In conclusion, the 5: 2 intermittent fasting diet can reduce body weight, but it does not increase in Serum Glutamic Oxaloacetic Transaminase and Serum Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase.
