ABSTRACT Mifthahul, Nurzanah 2021, Preparing Online EFL Classroom: A Study of Teachers’ Perspectives in Designing Lesson Plan During The COVID-19 Pandemic. A thesis, English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi University. The first supervisor: Urip Sulistiyo, S.Pd., M.Ed., P.hD. The second supervisor: Dr. Reli Handayani, SS., M.Pd. Keyword: Lesson Plan, Distance Learning, Emergency Curriculum. The emergency curriculum is a curriculum that is used in online learning at certain times such as the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the emergency curriculum has been regulated in the Decree of the Minister of Education No.719 of 2020. Which learning outcomes in the emergency curriculum are simplified from the previous curriculum by educators individually adjusting to the current educational conditions. Therefore, this study examines the implementation of online learning especially to the EFL teachers' experience in designing lesson plan for online learning. This study uses a qualitative approach. Then this study also explains the results of interview data from the three participants regarding their point of view while designing lesson plan for online learning in the covid-19 pandemic. The result of this study resulted three main points that are the topic of discussion, the first is about implementing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Which implementation process is regulated in the emergency curriculum. Then the learning process is also simpler to adjust to the needs of students during the Covid-19 pandemic. The second is the process of designing a lesson plan for online learning in the covid-19 pandemic. The lesson plan during the Covid-19 pandemic was designed to be simpler, because inside the lesson plan itself include three core components that must be included in it, namely preliminary, core and closing activities only. Then, to design a lesson plan for the online learning phase, the participants took several steps. The stages are related to the theory put forward by Hopkins (2015), namely: analysis, design, develop, implement, and evaluation. During designing the lesson plan for online learning, participants faced problems, including the difficulty in determining interesting learning activities, and the difficulty of adjusting to the limited time situation in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Thus, for the suggestion of this research, the researcher suggested the teachers to pay more attention to students' needs, current educational conditions and having kind of discussions with peers who teach at the same subject and level before designing a lesson plan. For other researchers who interested to the same field, can also conducted the same research with quantitative research by involving a number of school samples with a larger population, to get more general results.
