Abstract
Language laboratory is one of the important facilities to support teaching and learning activities. In order to provide the vocational school students' language competence, the availability of this facility is required nowadays. It is also necessary as one of the supplementary facilities to make them able to compete with other people both in national and international level and maximize the students' ability to master at least one foreign language in terms of listening, speaking and pronunciation, especially English besides other foreign languages in order to produce more qualified and competitive human resources. The problem is that language teachers o not really make use of this facility effectively in order to improve the students' language competence. This paper discusses what a language laboratory is, the advantages of using a language laboratory together with its brief history, the types of language laboratory, the language laboratory and the teaching of listening skill. Hopefully, the existence of this facility will be helpful to increase students' learning achievement.
