Abstract

This research was conducted using R & D (Research and Development) approach or development research that produces a product. This study aims to develop an English speaking module for eight grade student of SMP S Pelita Raya Jambi. The development of an English speaking module software adopts the stages of the ADDIE by Branch development model. Which includes: Analysis, Design, Develop, Implementation and Evaluation. However, the researcher took this stage until implementation. In the initial development process, researchers conducted need analysis of students and teachers for learning English and their views on the English books they used by means of preliminary research through group discussion forums. The design has been produced by the researcher. It has several parts including: cover, preface, guide for teacher, table of content, map of content and learning material including learning objectives, vocabulary list, phrase list and exercise. After designing the module, the researcher develops into the real product. The products were validated by two validators, they are material and design expert to give comments and some suggestions to improve the product. Then next step is implementation, in this case the researcher conducted into small group to measure how appropriate the module with the students. The researcher also interviewed the participants about the modules that already designed. The research instruments were interview protocol and validation sheet which were used to determine the criteria for the good module. The results of the assessment were analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. The research results obtained from the design and material validation results show that the English speaking module the criteria of a good module in accordance with the aspects of General Appearance, Layout Design, Methodology, Activities, Language Skills, Language Content, Topic Content, Teaching ability, Flexibility, Practical Consideration. With the English speaking module as additional material for eight grade student at SMP S Pelita Raya, it can be used as a learning medium to improve students' speaking abilities.
