Abstract
ABSTRACT The large amount of waste generated at the final processing site with an open system will cause new problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of leachate recirculation on waste temperature, waste pH, leachate pH, and waste decomposition and to determine the effect of leachate recirculation on leachate BOD and COD concentrations. Leachate recirculation was only carried out at reactor 1. The height of the waste was reduced by about 1-17 cm and 1-14 cm in the first week. The effect of leachate recirculation is not very visible on the pH of the waste because of the addition of rainwater that is carried out every day so that in both reactors the pH of the waste tends to be neutral with a pH range of 4.5-6.5. The value of waste temperature in reactor 1 is higher than in reactor 2 in the first week compared to the following week with a range of 30-34 oC for reactor 1 and reactor 2 is 30-33 oC. The pH value of leachate in both reactors tended to be acidic in the range between 3.9-6.8. BOD concentrations ranged from 9690-19350 mg / L for reactor 1 and ranged from 14250-18150 mg / L for reactor 2 while the COD concentrations obtained ranged from 17070-30018 mg / L for reactor 1 and ranged from 19255-28769 mg / L for the reactor 2. With the presence of recirculation it affects the waste degradation process, the concentration of BOD and COD as well as the resulting leachate.
