Abstract

ABSTRACT Sari, S.N. (2021). An Analysis of Textbook Entitled ‘When English Rings a Bell’ for the Seventh Grade in Junior High School. A Thesis Master Program of English Education, Universitas Jambi. First Advisor Drs. Syahrial, M.Ed., Ph. D and Second Advisor Dr. Dra. Yelia, M.Pd . The objectives of this research were to find out the strengths and the weaknesses of the textbook for seventh grade junior high school entitled “When English Rings a Bell” by using textbook evaluation criteria adapted from Dickinson, Pinter and Brewster (2007). This research was categorized as document analysis. The data were gathered by evaluate the textbook using the checklist and focused on the principles of teaching English based on the evaluation checklist about methodology, activities, language skills, language content, and topic content. Besides that, to make this research more reliable, the data were also gathered by interview an English teacher who also used the textbook in teaching and learning process. The data were analyzed based on the criteria that have fulfilled by the textbook. The result showed that this textbook has fulfilled criteria of good textbook; this textbook has the strengths in terms of methodology, activities, language content, language skills, topic content.
