Abstract
This research studied about the analysis of teaching strategies in Essay Writing in the movie “Freedom Writers” by Richard LaGravenese and aimed to analyze teaching strategies that were implemented by the Mrs. Gruwell in teaching essay writing in Freedom Writers Movie and how the strategies encourage students motivation to writing. The object of this study was the teaching strategies of main character in Freedom Writers movie, Erin Gruwell. This research used Library research with descritive qualitative approach and the data were analyzed related to Chasin’s theory. Based on the analysis, the result showed there were three kind of teaching strategies that implemented by Mrs. Gruwell, those are:(a) Active Learning: learning environments that allow students to talk, listen, read, write and reflect as they approach course content through problem-solving exercise, simulations, case studies, role play and other activities, (b) Case Method: an instructional strategy that engages students in active discussion about issues and problem inherent in practical application, (c) Integrating Technology: the strategy which facilitate students in learning using computer or other electronic learning tools. The strategies used by Erin showed an progress in the learning especially in writing and the strategies used by Erin built the good atmosphere in writing class for the students. Respond from the students showed that they got positive impact and motivation from the strategies that used by Erin in this movie.
