Abstract
Lestari, Dinda Juni 2021. The Students’ Perception of the Use Students’ Worksheets to Improve the Effectiveness of English Learning at SMP Negeri 17 Kota Jambi. Thesis. English Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Jambi University. The first supervisor: Bunga Ayu Wulandari S.pd., MEIL., PhD. The second supervisor: Dr. Masbirorotni, S.Pd., M.Sc. Key words: Students’ worksheets, effectiveness of English learning Minister of Education and Culture revealed that the home learning approach is the government's first strategic step to prevent the widespread of Covid-19. The use of technology can be applied when conducting distance learning. However, not all students can adequately participate in online learning due to obstacles in terms of the internet and gadgets. Therefore, teachers find it challenging to teach, so the teachers used student worksheets. This worksheet can assist teachers in conveying information (knowledge, attitudes, and performance) that cannot be conveyed orally. This study was aimed to analyze the perception of using students' worksheets in English learning during the pandemic and investigates the effectiveness of worksheets in helping students improve their ability to learn English during the pandemic. This study employed quantitative research with used a survey method. This study used questionnaire data and students' mid-semester and final scores of English subject for grade VIII to collect the data. The results of data analysis of questionnaire obtained from 76 respondents showed that t respondents were given a good perception of the use of worksheets. The analysis of survey questionnaire data also showed an average percentage of 73.43%, which means that the use of this worksheet is effective in their English learning. Moreover, the analysis of students' mid-semester score and final score using student worksheet showed an increase of 76.31% and the average final score of students has reached 83.19. Student worksheet should continue to use in learning activities during a pandemic. It is proven that student worksheets make it easier for students to understand the material not delivered by the teacher orally. Moreover, student worksheets can cover all students who are not supported in the online learning process.
