Abstract

This study examined how analysis character education in an English textbook for grade 12 using Systemic Functional Lingustics (SFL). This type of this research is a descriptive qualitative. The data source of this research is the English textbook for grade 12 SMA/MA/SMK/MAK. Ten speaking scripts/dialogs of this textbook were analysed by using SFL focus on Process Type to find the clauses and continue analysed character education inserted in it. The finding showed that there were 64 clauses in ten dialogs and there were six character education values presented in dialog in the English textbook entitled Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas XII. It means the implementation of character education in dialog in English textbook for grade 12 is still lacking or poor in delivery of character education. The researcher hopes that the other twelve character educations can be found in texts, exercises, or pictures found in 12th grade English textbooks.
