Abstract
ABSTRAK Based on the observation in the fourth grade of SD Negeri 47 / IV of Jambi City, that the lesson learned especially the science lessons are still many students who are less active during the learning process, do not pay attention to the teacher when explained, less willing to ask, Students who only listen to material submitted by the teacher can answer questions from the teacher optimally. The use of learning methods is only lectures and assignments so that learning is passive. The purpose of this study to determine the use of experimental methods in improving the activity of fourth grade students SD Negeri 47 / IV Jambi City. This research is a Classroom Action Research (PTK). Where every cycle includes planning, execution, observation, and reflection. This research was conducted on February 13th until March 04 of Lesson Year 2016/2017. The observed indicators of the students are (1) visual activity, observing the teacher when explaining the material (2) oral activities, expressing opinions (3) motor activities, experimenting, (4) mental activities, analyzing the problems (5) emotional activities, learning. The result of this research shows that student activity improvement is significant in cycle I from 59,55% and then increase again in cycle II 80,91% in active category. Increased liveliness is appropriate on the indicator. Researchers have used experimental methods in accordance with the planned so as to improve student activeness. Based on the results of observations in cycle II, then this research has been said to succeed because it has reached the predetermined success criteria. So it can be concluded the use of experimental methods can improve students' activity on the content of science lessons in grade IV SD Negeri 47 / IV Jambi City.
