Master's Program in Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Jambi University, Thesis, Advisor (I) Dr. Drs. Maizar Karim, M. Hum, Advisor (II) Prof. Dr. Dra. Nazurty, M. Pd. Keyword: meaning, educational values, traditions seloko adat This research is a qualitative research that aims to describe the meaning and values of education in the Seloko adat of the Pelawan community. Seloko adat are expressions that contain messages or advice that have life values. Meaning is the implied meaning or intent of an object. The value of education is the limit of something that educates towards maturity, is good or bad so that it is useful for life which is obtained through the educational process. This study takes 3 (three) traditional events, which consist of a traditional wedding procession, a traditional debt procession, and a harvest celebration. Methods of data collection using documentation and interview techniques. Documentation technique is done by recording every process that displays the traditional Seloko adat in the traditional procession. Interviews were conducted in an unstructured manner using interview guidelines. Analysis of research data is descriptive with the following stages: (1) collecting data, (2) transleting data, (3) sorting data, (4) analyzing data, and (5) data description.. The results of this study indicate that the Seloko adat of the Pelawan community is dominated by figurative meanings (parables) which contain traditional advice and regulations. Other types of meaning contained in this traditional Seloko adat include lexical, grammatical, and stylistic meanings. The educational value found in the Seloko adat of the Pelawan community is the value of moral education. Other educational values found in Seloko adat include the value of religious education, the value of social education, and the value of ethical education.
