Abstract
ABSTRACK Mutiara, Aisyah P 2021, Perspectives of Senior High School Students About The Advantages and Disadvantages of Google Classroom During The Covid-19 Pandemic. A Thesis, English Education Study Program, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of Jambi Univeristy. The first supervisor: Dedy Kurniawan, S.S, M.A. The second supervisor: Habizar, S.Pd., MESL. During Covid-19 pandemic, e-learning has been used widely in the learning process. One of the applications used for online learning is Google Classroom. However, Google Classroom has advantages and disadvantages yet to be studied particularly from students’ point of view. This research is aimed to explore the advantages and disadvantages of Google Classroom in English subject. The study is set in SMA Negeri 10 Kota Jambi with eleventh grades students as the subject. The design of this research is descriptive qualitative. The data are collected using interviews supported with an interview protocol. Furthermore, the data analyzed using thematic analysis. From the analysis of the data, some themes emerged: 1) Google Classroom as the main platform for learning supported by WhatsApp and YouTube. 2) Paperless submission. 3) Ease to see assessment. 4) Secrecy of students’ assignment. 5) Real time notification. 6) Lack of motivation. 7) Reading not monitored. And 8) Lack of interaction; a. No discussion and b. No peer reviews. Implication of the study is also discussed further in this thesis. Key words: Covid-19, E-learning, Google Classroom, advantages and disadvantages of Google Classroom.
