Abstract
The purposes of this study were to describe types of written corrective feedback applied by the lectures on students’ research proposal and to find out the favorable types for the students of English study program, Jambi University. The types of written corrective feedback that used in this research based on the theory from Ellis (2008). This research was descriptive quantitative study and used questionnaire to collect the data from students and lectures. The results of this research show that there are 3 types of written corrective feedback that often used by the lectures, those are direct corrective feedback, grammatical description, and electronic corrective feedback from metalinguistic feedback. Then, there are four types that sometimes used by the lectures, those are indirect corrective feedback, error codes by metalinguistic feedback, unfocused and focused feedback. The last type is reformulation. It is rarely used by the lectures. The results also show that direct, electronic, and unfocused corrective feedback are very favorable for students. Then, a brief grammatical description (metalinguistic, focused feedback, error codes (metalinguistic), and reformulation feedback are somewhat favorable. The last type is indirect corrective feedback. It is very unfavorable for the students.
