Abstract

The research objective is to explain students' Perception on the implementation of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in studying English at senior high school 3 Sungai penuh. Related to the research, the researchers used a qualitative research design. In obtaining and collecting data, the researcher used the interview method and the subjects of this research is 5 English Teacher at SMAN 3 Sungai Penuh. Moreover, to analyze the data, the researcher used data reduction, display data, and Conclusion. Then, for the final result of the research, it can be said that not all students have a good understanding of HOTS. Some of them need a general explanation first to be able to understand HOTS by bloom’s taxonomy concept. But In contrast, the rest can explain HOTS according to Bloom's taxonomy. Then, all participants from the interview have taken the HOTS study system, especially in the exam. However, the implementation of HOTS at SMA 3 Sungai Penuh is still not practical due to several obstacles and problems faced by the students. As stated in the interview, the main obstacle faced by the students was low ability of students in English. The other obstacles experienced are the teaching materials and learning media, both of which are very important in learning.
