Abstract
The need for wood raw materials for the carpentry industry and households has increased at this time, so that local species demand wood can play a role in meeting market demand. Sungkai (Peronema canescens Jack.) is a type of carpentry tree that has the potential to be marketed. Vegetative propagation by cuttings is widely used because it is considered to be faster in producing sufficient number of seeds and does not depend on the fruit season. A good planting medium is a medium that is able to provide water and nutrients in sufficient quantities for plant growth. Efforts to improve the quality of a good planting medium is to use organic materials. One of the organic materials that has a high nutrient content and is widely available is chicken drum fertilizer. This research was to study the effect of organic matter on the growth of sungkai cuttings (Peronema canescens Jack.) by direct planting method in the field. The study was conducted using a randomized block design (RAK) with a single factor of giving organic matter consisting of 5 levels of treatment with each treatment repeated 5 times. Each treatment consisted of 10 plants and 2 plants as samples, from 2 plants 1 was taken as a destructive sample at the end of the study. The total cuttings required were 250. The doses of organic matter tested were: 0 kg/planting hole, 1 kg/planting hole, 2 kg/planting hole, 3 kg/planting hole, and 4 kg/planting hole. Data were analyzed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by DMRT test. The results showed that the treatment of chicken manure organic matter applied to sungkai cuttings significantly affected the time of shoot emergence, shoot length, shoot dry weight and number of leaves. The application of organic matter of 2 kg chicken drum fertilizer per planting hole gave the best effect on the growth of sungkai direct cuttings in the field.
