Abstract
Cinnamon leaf extract contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, saponins, tanins, alkaloids, steroids/ triterpenoids and phenols. The purpose of this study was to determine the anti-inflammatory activity of ethanol extract of cinnamon leaves topically and to determine the best concentration and to analyze the decrease in exudate volume, inflammation diameter and leukocyte differentiation during inflammation. The materials used in this study were cinnamon leaf extract, carrageenan as an inflammation inducer and vaseline flavum as a base. The methodology in this study was phytochemical screening tests on extract including flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins, steroids/ triterpenoids and phenol as well as testing for anti-inflammatory activity. This research was conducted in a Completely Randomized Desaign with a Post Test Only Control Group Desaign approach with 5 treatments. The test animals used were 35 tails. Each group of mice received 5 different treatments: positive control (hydrocortisone acetate 2,5%), negative control (vaseline flavum), and variations in extract concentrations, namely 5%, 10% and 20% mixed with vaseline flavum ad 10 gr. The anti-inflammatory activity was tested using a combination of 2 methods, namely the formation of air sacs and artificial edema induced by 1% carrageenan. The parameters tested in this study were the measurement of exudate volume and the calculation of percent inhibition, measurement of inflammation diameter and differentiation of leukocytes. The results showed that cinnamon leaf extract (Cinnamomum burmanni) had an anti-inflammatory effect where the best concentration was treatment 3 (20%), but id did not exceed the activity of the positive control. Then followed by treatment 2 (10%) and treatment 1 (5%). Keywords : Cinnamomum burmanni, Anti-inflammatory, Mice, One Way ANOVA
