Abstract

This research aims to describe the motivation and learning achievement of English students during online learning in the covid-19 pandemic of English education study programs, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Jambi University. In this study, researchers used quantitative research design with descriptive problem formulation involving 58 students semester 2 of the Academic Year 2020/2021 English Language Study Program of Jambi University. The research instrument used a questionnaire was shared via a Google Form link to see student motivation in participating online learning and the relationship between this motivation and student learning achievement during the covid-19 pandemic. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was found that the total mean score for intrinsic motivation is 2.50 and the total mean score for extrinsic motivation is 3.42. It can be indicates that the motivation which influences students in participating in online learning during the covid-19 pandemic is extrinsic motivation. Then, the researcher also found that there is a strong relationship between student motivation and their learning achievement. At the same time, the direction of the relationship is positive because the Rvalue ≥ Rtable, so that the accepted hypothesis is Ha. It can be interpreted that the higher motivation of students, the more they will improve their learning achievement.
