Abstract
Keywords: Online Learning, Discussion Method, Zoom The online learning process is a learning activity carried out through an internet network without face to face. In the current situation, so many activities were disrupted. Therefore online learning is an alternative way for teachers to continue the teaching and learning process. In this research, the teacher in SMPN 17 Kota Jambi uses media to support the online learning process one of them is Zoom media and also the teacher uses discussion method to conveying the learning material. This research method is qualitative descriptive method by using unstructured interview to collect the research data. There are seven participants in this research, they are an English teacher and six students in class VIII-I. In this research described the use of the discussion method during English online learning, the effect of the discussion method to students’ ability and then the effectiveness of using Zoom media in the English online learning. The use of Zoom makes it easier for teachers and students in the English online learning process. The teacher stated that she used Zoom during the online learning with the application discussion method and it also quite effective as a learning media many students interested in using Zoom during learning process than using other mediums. The discussion method is the appropriate method to apply during online learning because, through discussion, the teacher knows students' understanding directly, and can also improve students' English skills.
