Abstract

ABSTRACK The purpose of this study is to describe how the behavior of voters in the regional head elections in Kerinci district in 2018 and what voting behavior is still at that election. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative with the nature of field research (empirical). The location of the research was carried out in Kerinci district, precisely in three sub-districts which has the highest number of increases in votes and one sub-district which has the highest number of decreases in votes from the previous election. The district is Keliling Danau, Danau Kerinci, Air Hangat Timur, dan Gunung Raya. Data collection techniques are interviews, the process of obtaining information by using question and answer methods to informants or interviewees based on interview guidelines. The results show that voter behavior greatly affects the level of participation of the people of Kerinci Regency in choosing the Regent and Deputy Regent in 2018 so that increased participation rate from the previous year. In 2013 the voter turnout rate was 70.87%, while in 2018 the voter turnout increased to 71.25%. The factors that encourage the community to participate are the level of enthusiasm, the role of the media, and political awareness. From the results of the interviews, it can be concluded that the behavior of voters who are still dominant in the people of Kerinci district are those who vote based on regional sociological factors and psychological closeness with candidates and supporting parties.
