Abstract
Insect pests are the designation for all insects that can cause damage and loss to plants and their derivatives. Damage to plants can impact plants to become dead or rotten, and can also be in some plants only, for example damaging leaves, stems, fruits or seeds, and roots. Therefore, research on the diversity of insect pests is very important to be done. The purpose of the study was to find out the type and diversity index of pest insect species on the eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) in Jambi city and Muaro Jambi. This type of research is qualitative exploration. Determination of the sampling location is done by purposive sampling technique at 5 shelters that become research stations. Collection sampling is done using 3 methods, namely taking insects directly (hand collection), yellow traps and using well traps (pitfall traps). The capture of the sample was made from 08.00-11.00 WIB and some traps were left a few days, then taken. Based on the results of research of pest insect species found in the eggplant is as many as 15 species consisting of 14 families and 5 orders. The family with the most number of species is the family Tephritidae as many as 298 individuals. The type of family Tephritidae is Bactrocera dorsalis. Families that have only the least amount can be found in the family Noctuidae, namely Agrotis ipsilon as many as 23 individuals. The highest type diversity index value is station II with a value of 2.42. The lowest diversity value of station III with a value of 2.3. While the dominance index in distasiun I is 0.12, station II 0.11, station III 0.12, station IV 0.12 and station dominance index V 0.12. The level index at station I is 0.87, station II is 0.89, station III is 0.84, station VI is 0.85 and the leveling index at station V is 0.86. The value of the diversity index of the type of pest insect on the eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) falls into the moderate category, the dominance index value of insect pests there is no type that is dominant and the value of the merging index of insect pests in the eggplant (Solanum melongena L.) belongs to the category of moderate population uniformity.
