Abstract

Background: Tension-type Headache is a primary headache that often occurs. TTH is most common in adolescence, and attacking three women for every two men. TTH occurs for more than 15 days per a month, affecting 1-3% adults. The factors that can trigger the occurrence of pain of this headache include emotional stress, lack of sleep intensity, fatigue, weather changes, and diet. Objective: This research is conducted to identify the relationship between the quality of sleep and the incidence of Tension-type Headache especially in the class of 2018 and 2019 medical students at the Faculty of Medicine of University of Jambi. Methods: This research is an analytic study with a cross sectional study design. The sample in this study was taken by purposive sampling in which data was taken by using certain criteria. The results of this study obtained an overview of the level of sleep quality of students which had an impact on approximately 37 men and 27 women who had poor sleep quality. Meanwhile, the description of the incidence of TTH at the University of Jambi has an impact on about 13 men and 38 women who suffered from TTH. Result: There is a significant relationship between sleep quality and the incidence of Tension-type Headache with a p-value of 0.002. In addition, the odds ratio is equal to 5.250, so it can be concluded that students with poor sleep quality have a 5.250 times risk of experiencing Tension-type Headaches compared to students with good sleep quality. This research can be concluded that there is a relationship between sleep quality and Tension-type Headache incidences in the class of 2018 and 2019 medical students at University of Jambi.
