Abstract

Based on the phenomena is come about in the era of pandemic COVID -19, teachers should be using online classes to teach because the government has requested everyone not to go outside unless there is important business. This would reduce the spread of the virus COVID-19. The author would know about the teacher's strategies during the online class. This is, of course, a new thing or experience that student and teachers feel. In this research the researcher focused on analyzing teacher strategies during an online class at SMA 11 Kota Jambi. Within doing of research, this research used qualitative research. The research analyzed the strategies the teachers used to teach listening in the online classes. The instrument the author used for this research is used interview protocol, and observation paper to help the researcher collect the data. The participants in this research there have three English teachers who would be representing each grade level. Found the final research, is about the teacher's strategy in teaching listening during online class in SMA 11 Kota Jambi, the strategy that is usually teacher used in teaching strategy is direct instruction and independent of teaching strategy and for listening teaching strategy the teacher used bottom-up., the purpose teacher used this strategy is to make the teacher easier to deliver the students. The various other teaching strategies normally teachers use, however it is rarely the teacher used to teaching for students because thus, strategy is deficient for effectively for students .Keyword: Teaching strategy, Listening strategy, Online learning
