Abstract

The changes of all educational systems influenced by pandemics have triggered a new way of learning for offline and online learning. The learning and teaching process is way different from the conventional classroom. Forced to face some of these inevitable constraints, challenges, and constant change, the teacher needs a lot of adaptation. Therefore, the researcher sees the need to investigate how classroom interaction is promoted or facilitated in the learning process in such a situation that will likely change from time to time. How do the teachers’ beliefs influence the teacher implementation of classroom interaction facilitated in this situation? In qualitative research, the researcher specifically identified the case study research approach. The key to case study approach is to explore an in-depth investigation of a single individual, group, or event. The subjects of the study were three English teachers who came from different schools, consisting of two female teachers and one male teacher. The data sources used in this study were: transcript of interview and document. The techniques for collecting data used were semi-structured interview document analysis taken from the informants. Then, the researcher used Miles and Hubberman, and Saldana (2014) to analyze the data. The finding of this study showed that the pandemic situation had taken a massive impact on the teaching-learning process in the classroom, more importantly, the interaction in the class. Hence, the teachers’ ways facilitated interaction in the classroom in pandemic situations are using small discussions and learning videos. This implementation is influenced by their beliefs, classified into two, namely beliefs about English and beliefs about learning.
