Abstract

ABSTRACT Milazoni, Tririzka. 2022. Scaffolding on Student Errors in Solving Math Story Problems Based on Information Processing Theory. Master of Mathematics Education, Jambi University Postgraduate Supervisor : (I) Drs. Maison, M.Si., Ph.D., (II) Dr. Nizlel Huda M.Kes. Keywords: Scaffolding, Error Solving Story Problems, Information processing theory The purpose of learning mathematics in primary and secondary education is to prepare students to be able to face changing circumstances in life. When students are faced with story problems, they experience difficulties which cause errors in solving problems. According to (Jha, 2012) the procedure that can be used to analyze student errors in working on story questions is the Newman Error Analysis (NEA) procedure. Problems faced by students can be seen as external stimuli (stimulus from outside). Information processing theory is a cognitive theory of learning that explains the processing, storage, and retrieval of knowledge from the brain. Providing assistance when Ididik I participants find it difficult to solve the problems I am facing is called the scaffolding stage. This study aims to find out what forms of error when solving story problems are seen also based on information processing theory and how the process of providing scaffolding to students who experience errors. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. In determining the subject of this study using a snowball sampling technique. The research subjects were class students consisting of 16 students and 4 students were taken as subjects to be analyzed. The research subjects chosen by the researchers are research subjects who are willing to work on the questions using the think aloud method and can provide information related to this research. The instruments used in this study were test questions and interview sheets. The data obtained were analyzed by the steps (1) Reducing the data. (2) presenting data and (3) drawing conclusions. The results showed that S1, S2, S3 and S4 in the first question had errors of understanding, transformation errors, process skills errors, and writing errors in answers, but on the second questions S1, S2, S3, and S4 experienced process skills errors, and S1 and S4 encountered an error writing the answer. The scaffolding used for this error is reviewing, explaining, restricting, and developing concept thinking.
